INRB

The INRB is located in the commune of La Gombe on Avenue de la Démocratie N ° 5345 (ex-Huilerie), opposite the Rehabilitation Center for physically handicapped people, not far from the Provincial General Reference Hospital of Kinshasa Ex-Mama Yemo Hospital).

It is a non-profit, scientific and technical public institution with legal personality and financial autonomy. It is placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Public Health. Created in 1984 with funds from French cooperation, INRB operates on the basis of Decree N ° 13/006 of 22 January 2013 on its creation, organization and operation.

It serves as both the National Laboratory of Public Health Reference and Research Center. In this respect, INRB’s mission is to contribute to the improvement of the health of the Congolese population by:

Biomedical analyzes;
Biomedical research;
Surveillance of diseases with epidemic potential;
Reference laboratory activities for control programs and health services (quality control);
Training in laboratory techniques and scientific supervision of young researchers.
To fulfill its mission, INRB has extensive scientific capabilities in virology, bacteriology, parasitology, epidemiology, animal science, entomology, biochemistry and hematology, pathology, toxicology, human genetics and molecular biology. It also draws on important infrastructure and equipment that provides it with significant technical and scientific expertise. The INRB has a good reputation for its contribution in the fight against Ebola, the production of diagnostic tests for sleeping sickness. In addition, he discovered a new virus responsible for hemorrhagic fever, called Bakongo virus. INRB is also known for the holding of the International Congresses of Infectious and Parasitological Pathology (CIPIP), designed as platforms for the exchange of experiences between scientists.

In addition, INRB has forged a diversified national and international partnership, which is the source of a synergy of actions favorable to its development.
